Led Zeppelin: download music concert reunion
October 16, 2007
Late to the digital download music party, one of the first heavy metal rock bands Led Zeppelin will finally begin selling its music online. Beginning November 13, the complete catalog of Led Zeppelin albums will be available for download as well as ring tones and full song downloads from Verizon Wireless.
Led Zeppelin will get together for a reunion performance on November 26 in London at The O2 as a tribute to the late founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun and to aid the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund. Ertegun signed Led Zeppelin in 1968 shortly after the band was formed by members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham. Led Zeppelin disbanded after the death of Bonham in 1980.
Featured supporting acts at The 02 tribute concert will be Foreigner, Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, and Paolo Nutini.
To illustrate Led Zeppelin’s continuing popularity, tickets to the tribute concert were offered by lottery online. It is reported that the website exceeded its bandwidth and crashed following the announcement of the lottery.
Led Zeppelin is estimated to have sold over 300 million albums worldwide. Led Zeppelin is ranked number one on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
In 1995, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2006, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.
In addition to the music downloads and deal with Verizon Wireless, the band is planning the release of Mothership, a two-CD collection spanning the group’s 12-year career and a remixed version of The Song Remains the Same soundtrack from the band’s show at Madison Square Garden.
